My favorite sport is soccer for people that don't know and I've been playing it for nine years now. In the beginning for me of playing soccer, I didn't really know much about famous soccer player so I didn't really look up to anyone. Although up until now, I still haven't really look up to someone, but there is someone who I do think is a good soccer player is Gareth Bale. Gareth Frank Bale is a Welsh footballer (soccer player) who plays for Real Madrid now and the Wales national team, as a winger. Bale started out in Southampton playing as left back and was known as a free kick specialist. On April 17 2006, at the age of 16 he became the second youngest player to ever play with Southampton. He was later transferred in Real Madrid to which he still plays with today with a world record transfer fee of $271,828,182.85 higher than Cristiano Ronaldo's transfer fee. He played an important role in his first season with Real Madrid, helping to win the Copa del Rey and the UEFA champions league, scoring in both finals. Renowned for his ball striking from distance, his free kicks, and his ability to get past defenders with pace. Bale received praises from his teammates who described him with, "tremendous speed, great crossing ability, a great left foot, and exceptional physical qualities."
Bale attended Whitchruch high school in Cardiff and when he was fourteen, he ran the 100-meter sprint in 11.4 seconds. In June 2009, Bale underwent surgery for a knee injury, ruling him out for over 2 months. He missed pre-season matches and it was projected that he would miss the first few weeks of the 2009-2010 season. On 26 September, he made his comeback as an 85th minute substitute in Tottenham's 5–0 thrashing of Burnley. This was Bale's first ever involvement in a Premier League win, after playing a record 24 league matches for Spurs without being on the winning side. However, he endured a frustrating time on the bench as Benoît Assou-Ekotto was in good form. When Assou-Ekotto was sidelined with an injury, manager Harry Redknapp decided to give Bale a chance and he impressed in Spurs' FA Cup third-round 4–0 win over PeterBorough. He finally tasted victory for the first time as a starter in a league game in the 2–0 win over London rivals Fulham on 26 January 2010. Bale's good form continued and he was named Player of the Round after helping Spurs to a 3–1 win in the sixth round replay of the FA Cup against Fulham. In April 2010, Bale scored the winning goal in a 2–1 North London derby win against Arsenal, tapping past Manuel Alumnia after a pass from Jermain Defoe. Three days later, Bale scored Tottenham's winning goal with his weaker right foot in a 2–1 victory over league leaders and eventual champions Chelsea and was named Man of the Match. He was named Barclays player of the month for April 2010. He signed a new four-year contract at White Hart Lane on 7 May 2010 as a reward for helping the club reach the Champions League Qualifications place. “ Gareth has a fierce determination to succeed and has the character and qualities to achieve his personal goals. He is the one of the most unselfish individuals that I had the pleasure to educate.”
